Logline Generator
Your whole book in one sentence
A logline is your book compressed to a single sentence: who wants what, and what stands in the way. You will use it to pitch agents, write ad copy, describe your book at a party, and keep your own writing on track. Describe the story and get logline options.
What is a logline?
A logline is a one-sentence summary that states who the story is about, what they are trying to do, and what opposes them. It is the tool screenwriters use to sell a film in a breath, and it works just as well for a novel, forcing you to know what your story is really about.
Why does every author need one?
Because you will be asked "what is your book about?" constantly, and a rambling answer loses people. A sharp logline is the seed of your query letter, your ad copy, your elevator pitch and your description. If you cannot state it in a sentence, the story may not yet have a clear spine.
What makes a logline strong?
Specificity and irony. Name a concrete protagonist rather than "a woman", give a clear goal, and hint at the obstacle that makes success hard. The best loglines contain a built-in tension that makes a listener want to know how it resolves.

One sentence, usually under 40 words. Short enough to say in a breath.
Is a logline the same as a tagline?
